On July 3, 2023, the European Commission granted EULiST the title “European University Alliance” and awarded the alliance funds in the amount of 14,3 million euros to pursue its mission. In its assessment of the proposal, the European Commission recognised EULiST as presenting “a promising approach to benefit other higher education institutions in Europe through its focus on inclusion and excellence, for example through creating a new digital infrastructure, which would facilitate open data sharing”.

Representing a significant milestone for EULiST and its ten member universities, the recognition and accompanying funding allow the alliance to implement its joint and integrated approaches in social sciences, natural sciences and engineering to develop new sustainable solutions to major challenges facing us today and in the years to come. To advance these objectives, EULiST will build an academic ecosystem at the intersection of society and technology in accordance with European core values. This will be achieved through the development of complementary educational opportunities as well as an inter-university campus that brings together faculty, students and researchers.

The Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) participates in this Alliance together with nine other institutions from across Europe. It is an ambitious and innovative project, which aims to build an academic ecosystem at the intersection of society and technology in accordance with European core values, with the overall objectives of the alliance being convincingly aligned with the most important recent policy documents in the field of human development and European policy in the field of higher education.
