Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) hosted the “II European Union Olympics” on February 21st and 22nd 2025, an educational event organized by Equipo Europa in partnership with the European Parliament Office. María Luisa Humanes Humanes, EULiST WP5 leader and Vice-Rector for International Relations at URJC, inaugurated the event, highlighting the institution’s commitment to European values through teaching, research, and knowledge transfer activities to society within EULiST. Over 150 students from schools across Madrid’s region participated at two venues: the Quintana campus and Ronda de Toledo.

The event centered on sustainability, featuring activities designed to spark reflection and dialogue on EU policies. A key addition this year was a European Parliament simulation, where participants acted as MEPs to debate proposals and build consensus, mirroring real EU decision-making dynamics. The primary goal was to engage youth with EU institutions and strengthen their participation in political discourse, building on the success of the first edition, which focused on the importance of voting in European elections.

Regional qualifiers will advance to the national phase in Asturias (April 4-6, 2025), with prizes including trips to Brussels to visit the European Parliament. Through EULiST, URJC reinforces its role as a key institution in fostering European citizens committed to global challenges.
